ASSIGNMENT 2 PROGRAMMING TRENDS

Snapchat

Snapchat is an image messaging and multimedia mobile application created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown, former students at Stanford University, and developed by Snap Inc., originally Snapchat Inc. Snapchat was released on September 2011. One of the principal concepts of Snapchat is that pictures and messages are only available for 24 hours after it has been posted unless you take a screenshot of it. Snapchat also consists of "Discover" that allows brands to show ad-supported short-form entertainment. As of May 2017, Snapchat has 166 million daily active users. The various filters and stickers are available on snapchat which makes it more user friendly.

Increasing popularity of Instagram Stories

We are aware about being able to put up stories on Instagram.  It is one of the most trending activity on social media. It is true that Instagram is not the first one to be starting this trend but when they started it, it got very famous. Basically, stories appear in a row at the top of the feed on Instagram. To see someone else's story, we need to tap their profile picture at the top of the feed, on their profile next to a post they have shared in the feed. When we view stories from the top of our feed, they automatically scroll from one person's to next. What makes Instagram stories even better is the different types of filters and stickers we are allowed to using while posting our Instagram stories. Those filters and stickers make out stories look even better and fun to watch as well.

Over 200 million people use Instagram stories each month, which is over 50 million more than those who use Snapchat. At this rate, nearly half of all Instagram users will be using Stories by the end of 2018. This means that brands interested in connecting with Instagram users must take time to master Instagram stories.

Both Snapchat and Instagram stories are tremendously popular and are in trends as of now. Even though more people use Instagram stories, I personally love Snapchat. I am a Snapchat person. I started using Snapchat in 2014 and ever since then I have been addicted to it. I think Snapchat is super fun and I just love using it. However, Instagram stories are not bad either but if I had to choose between the two, I would always choose Snapchat.

ASSIGNMENT 1 PERSONAL VIDEO HABITS

All of us have certain personal video habits. Basically, personal video habits depend on our preferences as far as watching videos is concerned. I personally am addicted to YouTube and Netflix. I find YouTube and Netflix very useful to watch videos of any kind. In my spare time, either I am on YouTube or Netflix.

YouTube is an American video-sharing website that was created by three former PayPal employees Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim in February 2005. Main reasons on why people are fond  of YouTube is that it allows users to upload, view, rate, share, add to favorites, report, comment on videos, and subscribe to other users. It also allows wide variety of user-generated and corporate media videos. YouTube is something that is available for usage for people of every age.

Netflix is an American entertainment company founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph on August 29, 1997. It specializes in and provides streaming media and video-on-demand online and DVD by mail. One downfall of Netflix is that, some movies or TV shows gets replaced but the best part is that they keep adding new ones or even old ones so that we are able to watch whatever we would prefer to watch. I am very much fond of Netflix. I use one screen Netflix which costs me $7.99 per month and for me, it is worth it. So basically, I am a Netflix fanatic.

Therefore, my personal video habits include watch videos/movies/TV shows on YouTube and Netflix. I think both of them are very useful and there is nothing else I would use for my personal video habits other than YouTube and Netflix.
